OVERVIEW

Femme Frontera’s mission is to amplify films made by women and non-binary filmmakers from border regions around the world and to celebrate these unique voices through showcasing work, funding projects, and providing film education.

THE ROLE

Femme Frontera is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Education Program Manager who can lead as well as be a team player. The goal of the program is to provide access via tools and resources for youth and adults along our U.S.-Mexico border to tell their own stories. This position is part-time (12 hours per week) and remote.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with current instructors to coordinate and schedule their classes and provide them with necessary materials/resources

  • Hiring additional instructors

  • Enrolling students and providing necessary class information to students and parents.

  • Sharing information about our classes via social media, newsletters, radio programs, or other marketing avenues

  • Developing partnerships with schools, youth programs, and other organizations to provide classes or inform them of our classes

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years experience in working in the non-profit and/or arts education sector

  • dedication to implementing and executing anti-racist and restorative strategies, as they pertain to the education we provide and who we serve

  • fluent in both English and Spanish

  • established relationship with schools, arts organizations, youth programs, community centers, non-profit organizations, after-school enrichment programs

  • strong knowledge of Excel, Google Drive, social media platforms

  • Innovative individual who isn’t afraid to push boundaries of conventional educational approaches

  • Exceptional planning, organizing, and project management skills, and ability to take initiative, set and respond to priorities, and drive projects forward from start to finish

  • Fearless, but kind and gentle communicator: must have a strong self-reflective practice, humility during miscommunication, and grace to relearn

THE ROLE

Now in its second year, Femme Frontera’s La Frontera Film Lab is part of our ongoing effort to amplify more stories told by people born and living in the U.S.-Mexico border region. The Lab provides funding, resources, mentorship sessions, and distribution opportunities for one filmmaking team (1 woman/nonbinary person from the U.S. border, 1 woman/nonbinary person from the Mexico border) to create one short documentary together. The La Frontera Film Lab Border Film Representative is responsible for helping the team navigate the logistics of developing, producing, and filming along borders. The purpose is to ensure the safety of the filmmaking team, enhance access to border networks and documentary resources and monitor an ever-changing economic, political and social environment at the zipper of two worlds. This position is independently contracted and part-time.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishing a schedule to meet with the filmmaking team (Lab fellows) each month.

  • Supporting the Lab fellows by connecting them to documentary resources, community organizations, safety and security information as it relates to the border region and bridge crossing times/restrictions and key connections as needed.

  • Researching and providing Lab fellows with necessary permits, paperwork, and permissions as they pertain to the production of their project.

  • Traveling, if necessary, to shooting locations with Lab fellows during production.

  • Utilizing your own personal experiences and knowledge of the border to determine the best way to navigate and plan a production schedule.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • bilingual (native proficiency, written and spoken)

  • experience and/or knowledge in: immigration policy, international bridge restrictions and regulations, cross-border networking, international safety and emergency protocol and regional navigation.

  • filmmaking experience (at least 2 years of documentary experience working on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border in pre-production and production)

  • provide logistical and relational support to the filmmaking team, as needed. Cross-border collaboration entails immigration challenges, commuting obstacles, production limitations, safety considerations, cultural competency and geographic restrictions.

  • skilled and experienced in adapting to the migratory restrictions the border creates.

  • strong knowledge of Excel, Google Drive, social media platforms

  • Exceptional planning, organizing, and project management skills, and ability to take initiative, set and respond to priorities, and drive them forward from start to finish

  • Fearless, but kind and gentle communicator: must have a strong self-reflective practice, humility during miscommunication, and grace to relearn

BONUS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • experience or knowledge of film distribution

  • established partnerships with those with access to film resources on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border

  • has lived or currently lives on the Mexican side of the U.S.-Border

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS

The success of the Border Representative’s support will be measured by the filmmaking team who will report monthly on the support they receive. Insurmountable restrictions created by federal immigration policy or socio-economic disparity will not be a factor in the evaluation of the Border Representative’s success.
